Is there such thing as a "snails only tank"? I have just moved my fry from my 5.5g tank and now I have a filter, heater, and extra stuff lying around doing nothing. So I wanted to take the snails from my 20g planted and let them live in my 5.5g. Will they live? What do I feed them? Can they craw out and into my room? Do I need to make a lid for the tank?

I keep snail tanks as I hate throwing away really big ramshorn snails. I have live plants and I feed either fish food or else I throw in some veggies like broccoli. I often throw a big chunk of veggie into the tank and wait until it is all eaten, it can take a few days.

I've recently started a snail only tank in preparation for some dwarf puffers. I feed them algae wafers, shrimp pellets, vegetables and some clippings that I take from my larger tanks. This tank has a lid since I was tired of finding little dead snails over my counter top.

That's funny, my tank is completely open so it gets sunlight (I do not light the tank) and I have never had a snail leave. There are ramshorns and pond snails.

I knew apple snails liked to lay above the water line, but my rams horn snails always seem to lay near the bottom of my tank, well underwater. And they always hatch.

Oh yes, of course now that I actually fully read what you wrote I see you said Columbian Rams. Mine of course are common rams. Sorry about that.
