I have 100 nails in transit as we speak. I am currently cycling my 75g to transfer my fish in my 55g to it. My ammonia is at zero, but my nitrites are at .4 Would it be safe for the snails to go into the cycling tank or should I put them in my 55g until the cycle is finished? The 55g has been up and running for two and a half years. Will the higher nitrites harm the snails?
Thanks!!!

What kind of snails are they? All inverts are sensative to nitrite and nitrate so if it were me I'd wait for them to be zero before adding anything. I've had nitrates in my tank up to about 10 and my snails did fine but I dont see the reason to putting them in there if you dont have to yet.

wait till the nitrite is 0, **** load of snails

Iv'e a question that deals with this. I had turbos and my amonia and nitites and nitrates levels were all 0 and these snails eventually died within 6 mos, why? Water temp around 80F.

If you're in this hobby long enough, you will experience mysterious snail deaths.

According to some sources, poor acclimation can cause deaths months later. They should be drip acclimated over several hours. Even if you did this, they may have suffered some shock in the transport chain before they got to you.

Another possibility is some sort of toxic algae, like dinoflagellates, poisoning them.

It could be a dozen other things as well, like parasitic or bacterial infections. It's frustrating.

By the way, there's no evidence that nitrite is toxic to any marine organism. The tank should be cycled and stable before snails are added, but nitrite is not the reason.

The big thing about Nitrites and Nitrate are only rappid increases of them in a short period of time, which is why acclimation is usually the cause of alot of snail deaths.

NOt really. The main cause of death from improper acclimation is osmotic shock, which damages the internal organs and causes a slow demise.

I must of acclimated these turbos for 2 hours. I have no luck with snails.
Many say that 2 hours isn't long enough. 5-6 hours is supposedly better. I haven't seen a whole lot of difference myself.
