2 part post

1) what snails (besides Malaysian trumptes) can survive BW tank?

2) what crustacean or other fish eats Malaysian trumpets?

I have an infestation and want to get rid of them, but if it is a good source of food for a critter, id rather do it that way, then to pick them all out......

Nerites do fine in BW.

Loaches in general, clowns in particular, will reduce populations of MTS markedly. But they may not wipe them out. And they are not suited to brackish conditions.

I have had nerites for over two years. They have flourished in SG from 1.001 to 1.008 without apparent difficulty. I have never seen them anywhere but ebay, of all places. Comes to about 2 bucks per snail, each about as big around as a nickel, mabee a little bigger. They are fabulous glass cleaners, voracious algae eaters!

Having said that, I recently bought a figure 8 and spotted puffer. After they took out 2 of my nerites, they (nerites) got moved to my freshwater tank without a prob.

My ample MTS population, however, has been cut to apparently nothing in a matter of a week. I know theya re alleged to have shells too hard for puffer's teeth, but mine seem to have suffered no injury. I had hundreds (thousands?) of juvenile snails come out every night. They are all now gone!

Good luck

In my 6 gal BW tank I have
1, 1" Astraea Conehead Snail,
1, 1.25" Cerith Snail (I think that is what it is. It burrows into the sand and I never see it until I uncover it, but it doesn't take long for it to move so its buried.)
2 unknown snails (Nassarius Snails, I think) that lay eggs everywhere, and cruse the tank (always moving and and pretty fast for a snail)
3 others that I think are Margarita Snail (nerite).
Plus 2 (Size of a dime) Blue Leg Hermit Crabs and 2 smaller hermit crabs. They are in shells that look like MTS but white.

1, 2" Mangrove Red Snapper.
