OK. I got some of those golden snails at (hail Satan) Wal-Mart. Thought they died. both shells are on the bottom of my tank.

So a week ago I notice a little brown critter on the side of my tank. I'll be darned, it was a tiny snail all brown and maybe 1/8 inch. It looked like it is growing a shell. Well I looked last night and seems like I have at least 2 other tiny snails crawling around (like 1/16 inch) on the side of the tank.

Could it be the shell I thought was empty (thought I got a dead one when I got home) had snail eggs in it? And would there be a difference in the hatching time and size of the (only seeing like 4-5) snails?

They'll have laid eggs before they died. Incidently - it's not wise to leave dead snails in the tank. They rot something horrible.

The golden snails lay their eggs above the water line in a large clump maybe 2-3 inches long. What you are describing sounds like it could be pond snails which reproduce asexually (they don't need a mate) so if you don't want them, remove the ones you see and hopefully you can keep the population in check.

Do you have pictures? This would help us be sure on the ID.

I agree with Jinkz, you got some hitch hikers
