always? many snails will fill themselves with air to float and move around either to find food or to escape a predator. if they float constantly and never attatch themselves to anything, possibly they are dead? I'm not a snail expert though so maybe there is some type of illness that causes them to float non-stop. Kyle
Sometimes I catch a snail getting caught in the filter backwash. He just goes around in a circle for an hour or so until he can finally catch a plant.
I have 3 snails and they will crawl around for a while but then they just float. there isnt a current problem because the bottom of the tank doesnt get much movement. they arent dead because i see them open up then later they will be at the bottom.
Common ramshorn snails are air-breathers. They have to come to the top to breathe, and in captivity without emerse plants to climb up, they just float up and drop back when they are fully recharged.
