well i looked in my tank today from a distance and it looked like there were a lot of algae colonies or something forming, really tiny. so i get a closer look and there are like 100 snails in my tank.

Ive never put a snail in my tank....

could it be from the driftwood? its been in the tank for about 5-6 months now (i think) and just now is anything showing up. i havent put anything new in there for god knows how long.

the reason i think it could be my wood is that there has been white algae looking stuff growing on it, ever since ive put it in. it almost looked like a spider egg sack thing out of water, but in water.

anyways, i thought that was odd... any ideas how they got there?

what else have u added to ur tank this past month?

coud hav entered ur tanks as eggs.. did u put any plants?
:duh:

its probably if you have plants... i've already taken out about 30 with just one plant and I can see more... good luck, the small ones are tricky!

i do have plants, but i havent put anything new in there for a good 3 months...

Snails can live for awhile in the substrate and generally stick to coming out at night. As the population expands more snails venture out during the day and start to show up in the tank. They are harmless to your fish and do help eat excess food and algae in a tank. They only become a problem and overpopulate if you are feeding your fish too much. Lower feeding amounts and do good gravel vacuuming, that will keep the population low.
