Snornography

Oh no, now I've done it! I just went out with my camera to try to catch my blue ramshorns at it (it's hard NOT to!) My daughter, 3 years old, came up and said "Mommy, are the snails sexin' again?"

Please don't report me to DCFS, I'll try to do better!

Kids are great fun. I've mine trained to tell me when they see a pair of my Macrobrachium shrimp doing the mating dance. A few months ago, while we had friends over, my son yells at the top of his voice, 'DAD, your shrimp are gunna do it!' from the aquarium room.

Conversation stopper, and starter. So I won't report you, if you don't report me.

Any tips on getting my Brigs to start the mating ritual? I had 2 females and bought to males this past week. The smallest male is the size of a nickel. They don't seem to show any interest in each other. I'm going to make some snail jello drops tonight hoping that'll entice them to do the dirty...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you can do a large water change at a slightly lower temp to simulate fresh rains, but be sure to drop the waterline at least the width of your largest female's shell.

First, make sure that they have a good breeding environment. Make sure that there's at least one inch of glass above the water line, two is preferable so the eggs don't get wet.

Make sure that your water parameters are healthy. If your snails are not healthy, it's possible they will not breed.

In my experience, if my snails are healthy, and the environment is conducive to breeding, it's difficult to impossible to stop them from reproducing.

Good luck

Finally... Hubby came in and said, "hey, those snails in there, they're doing it. Ya know, the ones in the middle tank, the expensive ones, they're stuck together". Lol. Any of the "fancy" snails, he calls "expensive" snails, even though the spixis actually were free from the RAOK from Chazgirl, lol. Either way, he's trained well. :) He peeks in on these snails several times per day now that he's laid off.

Anyways, without further ado:

I finally caught them (well, hubby did) in a place where I could ACTUALLY get a picture. :)
