I've had a tank for about 2 years, and everything has been fine. I've had a fish die here and there, but nothing bad ever. It's about an 8-10 gallon, tall octagon shape.

Anyways, I've put 2 dwarf grass plants in on the bottom, and some unknown plants left to float in the top. I've searched this board, and it kind of looks like Myriophyllum aquaticum, here is a pic

I think the problem was the unknown plant. My parents got some for our pond outside, me not knowing anything about plants, just figured it'd be ok to put a little in my tank. I probably had my tank overstocked, I had 3 white cloud minnows, 4 serpae tetras, 3 neons (which I bought the same time as the grass, they barely lived for a week, I can never keep neons alive. Also found out afterwards they don't go with Serpas good so I won't get them anymore) and 3 black neons, and a small pleco.

Now I'm down to 1 black neon, 1 cloud, 4 serpae's (although one is looking white colored, dunno if that is ich, but I have the temp up to around 78, I though a steady temp fixed that) and the pleco.

Also, I am well aware the pleco will outgrow my tank, I just got rid of a 6 inch one. I plan on giving him to a friend with a bigger tank or to the local pet store when he gets to big, right now he is about an inch and a half.

Anyways. I've been taking the unknown pond plant out of my tank. Something else I just found out, seems at least one snail so far came in with the plants, I just found him moving up the sides of my tank, I don't think he'd be a problem though.

Also, I don't have anything to gauge the nutrients or chemicals in my tank, I plan on going tomorrow if I can to get one. But why would a plant do this to my tank. I figured a plant in a freshwater pond would be find in a freshwater tank.

The plants were put in the pond first? A pond outside could be subjected to chemicals, on purpose or inadvertantly, i.e. any spraying of pesticides or weed killer around the yard, maybe even by a neighbour.

That's possible I guess. We got them from another guy who has a pretty big, succesful pond. Where our pond is, there is no grass and we haven't sprayed any pesticides or anything. Next door is blocked by a fence and there is no grass near the pond on their side, so it'd be hard to get any from them, they don't even mow their lawn.
