....I know my tap water has arsenic (but so do apple seeds right?) in it an manganese and lots of iron (might be good for plants). Guy at LFS said he metals are easy to get out. The salts in the Prime must dissolve them. So I have not use tap water before just bottled spring water. Should i just give it a try do you think the arsenic will kill the fish? I was going to set up the 10g get it cycled then either get the dwarf puffers if available or a betta. Or try it with some $0.10 feeder fish then let the puffers eat them ....just kidding.

I think you might find arsenic a naturally occuring condition in many areas of the country. It would take a substantial amount to have any true affects.

An Environmental Working Group analysis of Arsenic (total) tests reported by 30,575 public water suppliers in 41 states shows that between 1998 and 2003, 90.1 million people in 9,957 communities drank water contaminated with Arsenic (total). In 9,956 of these communities, tap water was contaminated at levels above health-based thresholds.

Why are you using bottled spring water?

I use spring water because the tap water is so pooped up. When I first got my 10g it came with some water and fish so I started adding tap water filtered with a PUR water filter attached to the faucet with some Start Right and the fish started dieing. But I was just starting out and didn't know about mini cycles and water quality and all that. I think an LFS employee suggested bottled water. I did see a water filter at another LFS for $50 they have an RO for $150 too.

I agree with RBishop, the trace amounts will likely not have any bearing on your fish.

I just tested the cold tap water it has zero of every thing ammonia, nitrites and nitrates and pH is 7. this is strange as I know it has chlorimine in it so maybe the ammonia in the chlorimine does not show up on the test because it is chemically boned to the chlorine. I was going to test it before and after Prime but seems pointless as nothing is showing up.

you still want to break up the chlorimine from the water.

Right of course. But I just thought it was strange. So do you feel that the iron in the water will be good for the plants. Or will the prime remove it? what does the Prime do with the metals does it dissolve the metals? wouldn't there still be trace amounts?
