So I now Work at PetSmart.

Yup just 15% I got special coupons for December 9 and 10 to give out to family for the same discount and a single special coupon for 30% off an item just for me I was stoked but never used it. Yeah I work hard to make sure people arent just jumping into things I worked yesterday and you know how many people got fish tanks for christmas and thought they were ready to just toss fish into them the day after? Well its a freakin lot! lol

At Petco it's 20% discount and we got coupons for family and friends in December too, so that they could have our discount. Every month Petco have items that we can get that is discounted even more. A couple of months ago we could get gravel at 50% off. Most of the time the special discounts are on Petco products. Basically that if you have confidence in the product you will be more willing to recommend it to a customer when they ask about it.

I always get people that get ticked off when you tell them that they can't get the fish right away. When I sell a tank I try and explain everything to them and to tell the person who is getting the present. I give out the sheets and write on the care sheets aquaria's website and tell them that this is the best place to find information. Most of the problems comes when someone buys a set up when I'm not there and then I hear from the customer that they didn't tell them that.

I have to say yesterday morning most of the fish purchases where bettas. I sold a couple of lizards and mice. All the hamsters sold right before Christmas.

I'm glad to hear that everything is going good for you Dexmaster. I've been working for Petco over two years and recently thought about joining my friends, but I get paid more and my store is 6 mins away less then 3 miles where as the Petsmart is 16 mins on days with no traffic more like a 30 mins and about 9 miles away. I know that it is not a lot but I love that if i want to go home for lunch I can or if I have to go the the kids school, I'm not that far. Plus the new manager is working out better not that I don't have some complaints but he is trying to do his best.

We had a couple in on boxing day and they assumed that you just needed a tank and you could put fish in there. Once we told them about filters, substrate, water treatment etc. they left after we had bagged the fish for them. Too much work for some people I guess. I work at a PetSmart in Ottawa, in Canada and opening every day is not too much fun! I never got a chance to buy anything with that 30% either but like five of my co-workers all got 25 Gallon Eurohomes for like $30, the complete kit. I recently got a 60 Gallon Super Pet tank tank for free from my boss so I'm stoked to start stocking that one.

I'm so proud of another AC member working in one of the pet chain stores. It makes a lot of difference when you strive to improve their services better especially when it comes to animals.

Jacki, that's sad.:( Hope the snail recovers from the trauma.

He is doing great now. He has put on 3/4 of an inch of new shell already and his little antennas are growing fast. :)

I work at a LFS too, it's just a mom and pop store, but I love working there. I only make $10 an hour, but to someone who is 14 years old, that's a lot of money. Plus, 30% off all items also helps. Good luck with your job!

lol everyone gets better discounts at other stores I used to work at a petland and got crazy discounts like anything at cost so that was awesome this is taking so getting used to

Ummm as far as customers with new tanks I haven't got any people who were mad at me directly just a little disappointed some though were greatful and that was a plus on the 26 of december we sold stuff like crazy mostly small animals but fish are starting to pick up and thats nice (muh favorite part) I have been spending all my extra work time scrubbing tanks.

Yeah, that's one of the things that's bad about working at a LFS, whenever it's slow around the store, you get to scrub algae from the tanks.

last year, i worked at petsmart as a stocker. it was an ok job, nothing really special. i think you'll like pet care much more than stocking the dog food and litter though. that is hard, repetitive work.
