Went in to buy my new pleco today and was recommended a cool little pleco called a stingray pleco. Find out after an internet search that I actually bought 2 hillstream loaches that some people say can't live in temps over 75. My tank is kept at 79. Are my new pets doomed for death? They are really cool little dudes!!

They tend not to do well because of low oxygen. Raising the temperature will certainly lower the oxygen but you can adjust by putting a power head and some bubble stones in. Make sure the surface tension is broke. If you see film at the top of your tank your doing something wrong.

I remember reading an article on a DIY Hydrogen Peroxide drip. Does anyone know where that is?

Thanks for putting that in Mgamer. I was thinking to say to find a happy median temperature, it just didn't come out right.

Its usually far easier to just install a koralia or powerhead to acheive the water turnover/flow they like.

Lucky you! I'd love to find some Hillstream Loaches for my Goldfish tank, cool looking fish. Check fishbase.org for the low end temps on the other fish in your tank. You'll probably be surprised at how cool some 'tropical' fish prefer. Mollys do fine as low as 64 degrees, as an example.

I use 79 cause everytime I drop below 77ish my sharks get very lathargec(sp?) At 79 they all seem to do very well. As far as surface agitation, that would kinda defeat the purpose of my c02 I think. Ill pick up a ph tonight and give a current a shot. But they aren't gettin any air!

Cause they were $2 each. Not worth the aggrivation of returning or shipping to someone else. If they don't make it ill get something else. Sorry if that sounds cold but they have a better shot in my tank than the lfs. Their tank was 82 and the stingrays had nothing in tank with them. No hiding places no wood.
