So today I put my Mystery Snail through a painful death.

I have a simular problem to yours. My catfish decided he'd snack on my 3 snails. One is gone, and another is injured I think. Its not closing its shell when I touch it and its trap door seems loose like its been torn a bit from him trying to pry it open. Is there anything you can do for them since he's not been torn out of the shell. Its just torn or bit around the door area a little bit as I can tell. Im new to them.
I took them out of the tank and put them in a plastic food container w/water and lid with holes for air. Till I can find somewhere else for them. The other snail is fine by the way I got him out before it made it to him. Does anyone know general care for these. They are golden Mystery snails, but they look like Apple snails to me from searching the web trying to find help.
Thanks for anyones input. I hope someone has good news for me.

Ok I just touched it again and it slowly pulled back into its shell, but I'm pretty sure its hurt though, But ALIVE!!! Im glad of that. I just hope I dont have to finish it off.
I took them out of my 29 gal. tank cause I m treating the fish with melafix for mouth fungus and now body fungus too. I didnt know if the snails could handle it or not. Looks like they was better off in there. Cant win for loosing. I feel bad, but really didnt think that the Cat fish would mess with them. Thought my loaches was the only snail eaters. Boy was I wrong.

Well, my experience with Apple snails wasn't too pleasant. A couple months after I set my first tank up, my hubby brought me 4 of them. I think 2 of them were mystery snails (black). Anyway I was a bit miffed that he did that even though I knew he meant well. Well within a week I had to extract a snail from my intake valve grate on my filter. Ok....ewwww!! It was all mangled. That ended up happening with 2 of them. Another one died from...? Old age I think (it was huge) and one was picked to death by a goldfish I had at the time. Before they perished they managed to mow all my plants off though!

So now I've just got pond, ramshorn and leopard snails. They do a much better job at eating algae, but they reproduce at an alarming rate. Its ok though, my guppies have been picking some of the newly hatched snails off the wall for snacks.

Well guys good to see my thread being resurrected lol.

Now that it's five months later i've raised two Mystery Snails from fingernail size to pretty much adulthood, doing great, never had a problem apart from the fact one crawled out the tank the other week while I was at work. Put 'em back in, was right as rain. Hardy little thing.

I've heard of this. Sometimes you can yank them off the walls, sometimes you touch them and it tears. Maybe if you gradually start to pull them off they'll have time to tense up and keep the muscle from tearing?

I did it once to a little ramshorn snail at the LFS... I always wondered about it, and I had recently heard about it, and I am picking it out of the tank and pop, there's a little snailbugger on the wall and the shell is in my hand. Or something?
