Soapdoctors tank

I like the skull.

Taking it very slow. Probably next year before mine is actually setup. Under the guise of "my sons tank" I've got a 10 gallon, supposedly cycling, for a test run. He's pretty excited about it and seems used to the fact there are no fish in the tank.

Only thing left, besides some neon tetras (his choice) is a little lego diving crew.

EDIT: Obviously everything but the water and possibly the sand is fake in there.

Oh man, back in the day...

Well, I'm fairly sure that the original fish are long gone. I'll never do neon tetras again since living doesn't seem to be a trait they are very interested in. Deaths and replacements and euthanasia for all, there are now 3 glowlight tetras and 4 neon tetras in the tank. Was 5 and 5 just 2 days ago. Everyone seems happy so I might have caught whatever the new 2 neons and 1 glowlight brought with them. Brown algae or diatoms running rampant. Horrible algae bloom (cloudy water) from a screw up on my part with a root tab. Probably not doing sand next time since vacuuming seems to be a PITA. Can't get any of the stuff without getting the sand as well. The skull had paint flake off of it after a couple weeks so it went in the trash. The purple plants took up too much real estate so they are gone. Replacing the remaining fake plants with real plants slowly. Every time I pull one of those plastic #(@*%$@# and put in a real plant it looks so much better. Have some RCS in there running around doing their thing. Replaced the filter like 6 months after this photo because the tank never did cycle and I was sick of a fishless tank. Only 1 member of the lego diving crew remains. I want to remove him partially because the fishing line tether bothers me but mostly because it looks like someone pooped all over his topside. If the brown gets under control he can probably stay.

All in all it's been a learning experience. After the algae bloom (cloudy water one) runs it's course I'll update with a photo, might be very brown. What a bizarre and complicated hobby. The fish, at least the ones I'm working with only cost a couple bucks but it's not uncommon to leave the store or online with a $50+ tab on regular occasion to take care of a total of $12 worth of fish. Have some new plants and a new light in the mail hoping to receive them tomorrow. Looking forward to spending more for the little fish I apparently hate. All I can do is spend more money and time researching and caring to watch them flip me the bird when they kick the bucket for no good reason. FML but I love it.

And yes, my ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are perfect. Seems to be the least of your worries once you get into it but the thing I was worried about the most at the beginning.

EDIT: The 40g is still sitting on the floor holding other fish supplies waiting to be used. Moving in the semi-near future so don't want to set it up but also want to get good section of the learning curve done on the 10g before I start the 40g.

Against better judgment I ignored the sick fish and possibly dying RCS and rescaped the tank this week. No plastic except the heater and filter in there now.

Yeah it's still insanely dirty in there. I'm not cleaning it until next weekend. Traumatized everything in there enough for one weekend.

Oddly enough, the fish are actually interesting to watch now. Instead of just floating and hiding they are now swimming around chasing each other, shoaling, and generally just appear to be in a much better mood. Almost as if they know it's a three day weekend. Not for me but anyway.
