Soft Water + Light = Algae?

thats quite enough, I will not allow personal attacks of any sort.

if your tank isnt planted, you could use a floating plant to help use the nutrients and decrease lighting in order to inhibit algae.

floating plants generally do better than submersed plants and act as filters because they are able to transfer waste into the air, rather than into the water again.

The way I see it, you should be controlling nitrates phosphates and other algae causing nutrients anyways. You could leave your tank light off and never get any algae, but then you cant see your fish either.

Light only influences which types of algae grow, as long as theres some light at all, youll see algae. Unless you limit the nitrates and phosphates avaliable.
