basically my question is is a single angel fish ok. ive seen some places that say they need to be in groups and to not get only 2 because if they dont pair they will fight until one will eventually die. so whats the answer is it ok the have just one angelfish?? the one we got with the setup was a singe and he was fine.

I have a lone angel right now and he seems to be doing great.

I asked this same question about a week ago, and the answer seems to be...it depends. On tank size, tankmates, and the disposition of the individual fish. In any event, if you keep them in groups, conventional wisdom is that if and when they pair off to start breeding, the pairs will get quite territorial and agressive. So I'd keep your lone ranger and cross the "bully fish" bridge when you come to it.

I've had just the one angel on my 90gal comm tank for a year and he/she is doing fine, is very chill and regal compared to crazy hyperactive rosy barbs :)

Angels can be kept alone.
by nature they are shoaling/schooling fish..but..
they do fine as solitary fish.

I keep a lone wild Peruvian Scalare alone int a tank with 7 Discus.

he is fine in this setting ..when his shoaling nature comes up he just swims with the Discus.

alll my other angels are in pairs. they are very aggressive when they pair up..especially towards other angels

wow, I was told and under the impression that you could not keep barbs with angels due to fin nipping. ive also heard that tetras are not good with angels as they may like to eat them.

so I suppose this leads to another quesion. are barbs ok with angels?? like I said ive been told their not. there are a few I like, but have avioded them because we plan on getting another angel.

ill go over the tank setup

55 gal, some driftwood, we will be getting more. decent amount of fake plants, still not sure if we want real ones yet.

tank mates:
probally 4-5 in pink kisser, he never bothered the other angel, until its last days, we had to take him out of the tank he terrorized him so much. he dosnt really bother anybody, except the pleco:screwy:

probally 5 inch pleco

1.5 inch or 2 inch, still small, dwarf gourami.

an angel is probally next, trying to find he perfect one :)

also eventully he will probally have 2 GBRs and maybe a couple apistos in there also.

you have to watch them with barbs. especially tiger barbs.

tho bolivina rams will kick the crap out of tiger barbs..mine did.

I dunno, perhaps I've been lucky with the rosies, the angel is fairly large and the rosies generally give it space, but I'll probably remove the rosies soon, they damage my plants too much now that they have gotten bigger.(despite being very well fed)
