1. if you put corals too close to a heater, will that cause them to try and move, or die? i noticed after rearranging my rockwork, some shrooms detached from the rock is it because i placed them too close to the heater, or are their many possibilities?

2. i have not run my protien skimmer since may, and everything is fine. i have not lost anything, not even a snail, since may. should i sell this thing, or since i have a low bio load is that why?

1. could have been the heat but, it could have been things like more water movement etc. When you say close what do you mean in most tanks there is enough water movement that they would have to be very close . 2. My softies all did a lot better after I stopped skimming also my crinoid ,"which had on occasion amputated some of it's own arms until that point", showed a huge improvement. You'll need more h2o changes but, that never hurt anything. I don't know how well this would work for sps corals though. I don't think that they would like the extra nutrients as much as the softies. Just my 2 cents

1. Could be a lot of things. Mushrooms often move away from bright light or current that is too strong.
2. What kind of skimmer is it? If it's a nice one, I'd hang onto it in case you want to push the bioload or move to other corals.
 
one more question.

can a mandrian survive comfortably in a 75 gallon with around 100 pounds of live rock? i have a yellow tang, hermits, zebra turbos, a coral beauty, and a scissor tail goby.
 
The biggest problem with mandarin gobies is that they are very picky about what they eat. If your tank is mature enough and you have enough pods for them to eat then from what I have read you should be ok. If you dont have enough pods then the goby will slowly die. Some people have had madarins that will eat other foods, but this appears to be pretty rare, so dont count on him eating other food. The tank is large enough as most resources I see say that 30 is about the minimum tank size for one, so I would say the food is the only factor on if you will be sucessfull with one. You could always buy pods online somewhere to supply him food if you want one and dont think your tank can support him on its own. Hope this helps a little at least...
