I'm looking to buy a 2-3 SAE. I'm having some algae issues and after doing some research, now understand why my CAE isn't doing the job. Preferably P/U near Chicago but any offers/leads would be great. Thanks!

Also, if anybody knows of a LFS in the Chicago-land area where I can find some true SAE's that would be a great help as well! Thanks!

google tropical fish distributors.

They have real sae under loaches. I have 10 sae in my tank and all came from them. I tried everywhere and no one carried them. TFD was the only place to get them for me.

Joe and Pete are good people and have really cool stuff you can not find anywhere else. I order from them about three times a year. No one beats their prices.

RD trigger is right otos do a really good job on young algae.

I use bristlenose, otos, and SAE in my tank. With this combo I never clean algae but have a number of kinds growing all the time. from green to black.

But from my experience nothing its more types of young and old growth than a SAE.

Yeah at the moment I have an oto and a CAE in the tank but the CAE is pretty worthless as far as the algae goes (at least the kind I'm trying to get rid of) and the oto doesn't seem to be making much of an impact. I was planning on purchasing another 2-3 otos and probably 2 SAE's and giving the CAE to my friend. I also have numerous snails in the tank that piggy-backed on the plants.

My biolog professor actually specifically studies aquatic plans (more specifically algae) and she said that the algae I have growing is very healthy. It is reproducing both asexually and sexually. But it's long, dark, filament-like algae that is all over the quartz rock I have in the tank and a coupe of the plants I have in tank (pennywort, wysteria, and java sword).

According to their website they have a minimum order of $200. Or am I reading/understanding that wrong?

I was going to recommend Amanos as well. I've read in several articles and individual raves that amanos devour hair algae (my least favorite algae). Although I have yet to acquire amano shrimp, I plan to do so soon.

And not to discourage you, but I have a true Siamese Algae Eater that was busily cleaning the tank it was in when I purchased him/her. Probably two weeks after I purchased him/her, he/she stopped cleaning and started eating the flakes I fed the other tank mates. As a matter of fact, I moved him/her into a tank that is fairly infested with hair algae and he/she insists on eating only flakes and has not even touched the hair algae. It was actually pretty upsetting at first but now I reason by telling myself, why on earth would the poor thing eat algae when he/she is able to eat the tasty stuff (flakes).

Same thing through me off at first.

When you call TFD let them know you are a hobbiest and would like to order. I have never ordered up to there min. I am always under 200 dollars. The Min. is for petstores. Those guys do a ton of business. And are busy all the time.

But if you really want some SAE quick for a great price that is where I would look.

Check there price list. They also sell all types of shrimp. So you could do both at the same time.

Also look for WetSpotCX on aquabid. I've dealt with him (got some SAEs from him actually) and iirc, they are on sale this month. Awesome guy to deal with. If you'd like his email address, just PM and I'll give it to you along with what his stock list price is for the SAE
