Something Is Very Wrong!!!

Eukaryotes comprise animals,fungi,and plants.

brown algae, diatoms and water molds fit the same chromist supergroup.

in essence it is pretty complicated. and brown algae does not appear to be in the same group as green or red algae.

how many other algae use silicates and phosphates to create a 'skeleton'...LOL

Any suggestions on what fish to put in there to eat this "brown dust", "brown algae", "non-algea diatrom from a major group of eukaryotic algae", stuff?

Cleaning it won't help, but maybe there is a suggestion for Dougie that he can add to his tank.

I do not know enough about algea eaters. Before coming here I thought common plecos were good for every tank. Now I know better (the wifes tank has one).

Ottos are the only fish I know of that eat brown algae. But, brown algae will not last long because it feeds on silicates in the fish tank. After a while there will be no silicates left and it will dissapear. Brown algae is VERY common in new aquariums you just have to bear with it for a few weeks. I don't reccommend getting a fish to do a job you can easily do yourself.

once your tank gets through the cycle and establishes itself the diatomaceous algae (proper?) should go away on its own.

I have green diatoms in my tank.

the brown ones will eventually go away after your tank has completely cycled.

I had to acually take everything out last night and clean it, my tank was that full of the stuff. you mean after a few weeks it will go away on its own with out cleaning? I am a bit confused because I do weekly water changes, my tank is in good shape, but that stuff made my tank look horrible, dark and dirty.if I leave it go, do nothing it will just fade away?

you'll probably want to clean it as it will cover almost everything. It also may be present for quite some time. but generally as the tank ages the brown algae will go away.

it usually wipes of pretty easy.
