I just found my cleaner wrasse after hiding in a rock for three days, which is not like her, its the first time she has hid for so long. The day before, she was swimming around eating fine. After I found her in the rock, she was thin and lethargic. My flasher wrasse still eats very well and has no spots but he does scratch on the rocks sometimes. The only other fish I have right now is my maroon clownfish, but he seems fine. I am having a problem with cyano bacteria right now. That couldn't be the cause of anything could it? I upgraded my flow, but it still won't go away. My nitrates, ammonia and nitrites are at 0. I haven't checked for phosphate yet.

Is there anything I can do for my cleaner wrasse, I really don't want to lose her, she's my favorite! :shakehead:

i had a cleaner wrasse that always hid and almost never came out before. died in a week. they are really hard to care for from what i heard. they feed on specific foods to survive, but forgot i what it was =/. they die from malnutrition. somebody correct me if im wrong.

Yes, so I've heard. I fed mine enriched flake food with garlic extract and brine shrimp and he ate stuff off the other tankmates. He has been fat and happy for the past 3 months, but then the other night he just went into hiding =(

i also has the one... but i think i am the lucky one... he live in my tank a year before he jumped out from the tank and die....

i just give him a shrimp blanded.. and blood worm for his food... and he swimp happy.....

I wanted to buy a wrasse in my tank and I am a beginner. My LFS guy told me not too. He said it is common that they don't last very long. I don't know what makes it difficult for them to survive though.

I tried the mysis, but she never even comes out of the live rock. Unfortunately, I don't have a QT so when I was finally able to make her come out of the rock I put her in one of those plastic containers that hangs over the side of the tank for a while but the only thing she did was lay on the bottom.

Unfortunatly, this is one of them fish which should be left in the ocean...I really do not think that some LFS know much about these when they decide to buy them in to sell...

All you can do with these when a feeding issue arises is ensure its in a tank which is properly stocked with fish so it can naturally feed and keep trying different foods to tempt it too eat...so many of these die in the home aquaria...

Good luck and keep us informed..

i had one for about 8 months....it ate everything i put in flakes, mysis.brine etc and even picked at seaweed off the clip...then one day it just died for no reason i could see....i think these fish don't survive in the home aquarium long term..maybe if you had a huge tank with many fish for it to feed from you might be able to keep one alive.
