Somethings is wrong... smells bad, dead fish

Thank you I will try that.. what we are doing right now is letting the water sit out in the garage in some brand new never used washed out 30 gallon trash cans for 72 hours before using it.

I know it's no help to you, but I was glad to read your post regarding Barbs that like to do "headstands". I've got 2 Green Barbs and a Tiger Barb that have been doing that since I got them 4 weeks ago. They seem to do that after eating, very strange...but, I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice this behavior. A guest at my house a couple weeks ago (self proclaimed fish expert) said that there was probably something wrong with them and that they probably wouldn't be around much longer...

They're still kicking! (and headstanding)
