Sooo.. can you go overkill on plants? =/

You're off to a great start, and it's going to look better. Plants can take a while to settle in. To my eye, and this is just my opinion, it might look more interesting to group the plants together a bit more in a few areas rather than spread them evenly throughout the tank.
Can't wait to see them all grow in, though.

I am going to at some point, I need to clear a large patch of substrate in the front and the back right corner where it's very dark and hidden covered by the really large driftwood pieces. The 1 rock with anubias and 2-3 pieces of wood /moss and java ferns are going to get relocated to the back a bit more and some to the sides. Hopefully this will give the big cichlids Im wanting to get room to dig and keep them away from the plants... they won't be digging the plants up since they aren't rooted plants, but I'm hoping they just don't eat them ;)

Thanks for the advice.

IME rubber band constrict the roots causing them to rot. I would suggest using thread or strings. About the plants, having fast growers might help in the inital phase. And the fish, not big cichlids like oscars i hope. And aquascaping, COOL!

Cool, which cichlids are you planning to get?

nics and carpintis

I know I'm rollin the dice but I'm willing to do it. Have a good looking tank and some good lookin fish.

I haven't placed rubberbands on the routes anywhere though so is that going to be an issue? I looped the rubber band around the rhizome once, put it around the rock/wood then took the loose end of the band and lopped it once or twice around the rock/wood. Still an issue?

he moss has really taken off. You can literally see new growth each morning. The anubias and ferns seem to be doing well also. I can see the anubias roots reaching and searching for a place to grip to. One plants had a root move about an inch and a quarter since being tied down. The ferns are letting their rots run over the woods now too, they'll be grabbing hold soon I thin. Looks like this just may work out.

Did a litle rescaping today to open the sand up a bit so I could add the loachs from their QT tank. They love it and are awesome to watch. escondido and meeki's come in tomorrow and then the tank will be done pretty much, save a bit of touching up once the plants start to grow a biot.
