one of my dannio (possibly the one that got flushed out onto my 20*F porch via my python by accident last night) is just barely staying afloat behind my heater. his body is angled upwards and he only kicks his tail fin as he starts to sink a little. it seems to me he's trying to put as little effort as possible into just hovering in one place. is it a possibility he is dying? should i take him out now? i will be working all day tomorrow and don't want him to die and become toxic to my other fish.

Dam, I'm sorry :(

Might be some swim bladder issues from the trauma.

Keep an eye on him and make the water as clean as possible. If there's no improvement you may have to euthanize.

ok i'll let him chill over night, if he's still barely moving tomorrow (i hope he's not dead) i'll euthanize him before work... what a start to a day that will be.

i would wait untill after work.....that would give him more than just6-8 hours to live, other wise he could have made it but you didnt give him enough time!!!!

good luck!!!

Hope he comes around... sorry to hear about that.

I would wait until you get home from work. Smaller fish like danios are very hardy and they constantly surprise us that way. Besides, if he isn't going to make it, he'll die on his own rather soon.. I'd say. By tomorrow night, you'll probably either see some improvement, or he will have passed on.

If your tank is fully established, if the fish does die while you are at work, it wont have time to really start to decompose before you get home to remove it.. I say leave it and see what happens..
