Hi,

I've been getting ready to set up a 10 gallon tropical tank. However, after getting a filter, heater, and a bottle of water conditioner, I've spent about $50, which is the most I can afford to spend.

So now I have everything I need (other than water test kit, but a good one costs at least $20-25), except for the tank. I have put out requests on Craigslist and Freecycle, but have only gotten responses for tanks out of my price range or too big. My parents are very firm (I've tried everything I can), they will only let me get a 10 gallon. If they would let me go bigger, I could have gotten a 30 gallon for free :shakehead:

So what I'm asking is, where can a I get a good tank for about $8 or less? My LFS (Petco) have basic 10 gallon tanks (All Glass Brand) for $11.99, but that is more than I can spend.

Thanks!
Isaac

Yes I know. 8 dollars is the absolute maximum. And being under 10 will help it seem like less to my parents, so maybe they will let me get it. I would prefer under 5.

Free would be awesome!

Ok, I'll try and stop there next time I'm in the town.

Any other thoughts?

Wait for a better deal on craigslist. Give it a month, unless you live in the middle of no where someone will put up a good offer.

Maybe you could work out an agreement with your parents. You know you could do some extra chores and earn the extra $4 to get the tank at Petco

It's not that I don't have the money, its that they don't want me "wasting" my money. They're not really keen on the whole aquarium idea, and it's taken a fair amount of negotiating to get to where I'm at now.

@AshK: I've had put several posts on CL over the last month and a half, and have gotten several responses, but most are too big or to expensive or both

look on craigs list, people give those away all the time. make an awsome tank, your parents will give in and get you a 180 :D

That's what I'm hoping :thm:

My parents (specifically my mom) really don't want me to have a tank in my room. The only place they will let me have it is in the bathroom on the counter. My mom says it's because that's an easy place to clean. I've actually measured, and they only tank that will fit in the space I have is a ten. Even a 15 will cover some of the mirror, and that's a no-no :shakehead:.

I have room on my dresser for a 30 gallon or so, but I've got to convince the parents....

thanks,
Isaac
