Spaces between words

Spaces are very good. Why do we use them? To distinguish where one word ends and another begins. Where does this really help? Well, let's take for instance the case of words people may not be familiar with. Those with a limited vocabulary are assisted greatly by spacing of some sort. This allows them to isolate a particular word within a sentence and then begin to try and discover the meaning through context, usage, familiarity and similarity of the questionable word with other known words or simply isolate for looking up in a dictionary. It also allows for abbrevations (which, by the way, save paper) and reduces confusion between conglomerations of words that could mean two things (which, by the way, the English language has quite enough trouble with already).
