Which do you think would be a better choice for a planted 5 gallon? Both seem to have the same behavior characteristics (from what I read).
Sparkling Gourami or Betta

I don't know much about a sparkling gourami but I can tell you that if it is heated, a betta would THRIVE in a 5 gallon. Plus you get the warm fuzzy feeling of saving them from a tiny little cup!
Both would work in a 5g so it’s more of a personal choice, what would make you happy? I would choose a Sparkling Gourami over the betta, but that is because I prefer the less common fish.
Sparkling Gourami’s stay small, maxing out at about 1 ½ inches. One would do alright in a 5g. Maybe not ideal...But one could argue that neither is a 5g for a betta.guppygal said:
