spawning danios?

thank you. They spawned last night as soon as i turned the tank light on so i seperated them from the rest of the fish and I watched. She did lay eggs, quite a few got eaten but the rest fell down into the marbles so hopefully tommorrow or friday i will have fry.

Does anybody know how much time there is between the spawnings? like weeks?

How many layers of marbles did you use? 2-3 and hardly any eggs should be eaten.

10-14 days is about right for fattening up females to spawn again. Keep her separate from males during that time.

well i had atleast two layers, idk though because i think there were some bare spots where there was only one layer in some and like three layers in another, so she wiggled her way down to eat the eggs. but i will see in hopefully today or tommorrow how many survived. and wow, 10 to 14 isnt a lot of time! so if it doesnt work i can try again =] oh crap never mind, ill have to wait because im going to italy next week lol scratch that. but thanks for the help!

I don't keep danios any more, but I used to have a group of them that spawned regularly. When I noticed them spawning, I did a gravel vac and then saved the water in a bucket. In a few days, the bucket was swarming with little danio fry. Liquid fry food worked great for them. :)

You have to make the layers even for it to work silly. Three EVEN layers is best, but two EVEN layers will work. Leaving spots with one layer will NOT work as you saw.

aww darn it lol i dont think it worked then.. idk i see eggs but they haveng hatched yet and its been like two days =[ plus some of the ones i can see are kinda milky which means theyre not fertilized, and the others have like little whitish centers? what are the eggs supposed to look like? its hard to see them lol

give it time...the fry are absolutly tiny...like u pretty much need a magnifying glass to see them...they will litter the tank walls when hatched...

When they hatch, they look like little slivers of glass. You have eggs, so it worked. Next time, you'll have 3 layers and you'll get a whole lot more.

Oh btw, did you have only a couple inches of water above the marbles?

You can fill the tank up and add a sponge filter. I usually would keep one in the main tank running so I'd have it for times like this.
