I have a Mag Float and its great on brown algae and soft algae, not so good on the hard stuff.

I use an old hard drive magnet between a piece of fiber to rid my aquarium walls of diatoms and soft algae. It doesnt do so well for the tough stuff, however.

I use OtoMagnet. They take care of diatoms like mad. I have 15 albino ancistrus coming in. They'll handle what the OtoMagnets don't.
