How does emotion effect your listening?
If I am tense or upset, I typically miss what is being said.
How does your physical environment effect your listening?
In places where it is loud, and overstimulating, I cannot focus on anything but getting away from the chaos. In a calm and slow environment, I hear it all.
Do you ever create bias between certain genders that effect your listening?
Yep. I have found that I prefer to talk with men. A Lot of the ladies I know only want to gossip, and talk about petty, vane or pointless crap, so I avoid them. I have always found good political and social debate with my guy friends.
Does your culture affect the way you listen?
I don't think its so much that, I would mainly attribute it to my family. We were not raised to be rude, my mother is a very emotionally deep, and has tried to instill some of her values into us. Ignoring, and not paying attention to someones opinion was and is considered extremely rude.
Have you shown any disinterested non-verbal facial expressions when listening?
No, I always try to be polite when having a conversation. What someone is saying (While I may not find it interesting) is important to them, so I listen and add in my opinion to show I am listing.
Does the age of the person you talk to effect you’re listening?
Yes, I prefer to talk to older more educated people. I honestly have a hard time talking to kids and teens.
When you talk to someone do they exhibit any disinterested expressions or behaviors?
My husband, and its really uncool. It seems the people you need to hear you them most are the hardest to reach. Like being comfortable with someone grants you the right to become rude, or unaware.
Which do you think effects listening the most Gender or Culture and why?
The way we are raised, (I guess that's culture) and the people we chose to emulate. The world is being raised by pop stars, video games, and TV. Gone are the days when we looked up to the intelligent, now we look up to the vane and shallow, and that's where the mind set of humanity is heading. That's who our and the next generation listens to.
During conversations what turns you off?
Being interrupted, and talking to someone who is so clueless they have no concept of what I am saying!
Any misconceptions within listening?
You don't need to talk to be heard. listening involves body language, most people cannot "hear" that type of language tho.....
