spillover filter: does anyone change them?

I appreciate the photograph as I was lost here.

I have two HOBs which are much more rudimentary than yours but I rinse the pads in WC water during each WC. I also rinse the biowheel occasionally in WC water.

I also clean the chambers in the pad and biowheel reside.

good info Jones. Like a moron I changed both filters and THEN asked the question. Two days later everyone looks healthy so I guess it'll be OK, but I should do it different in the future. Thanks

Yeah, I budgeted a certain amount to spend on restarting a fresh water tank last summer and had more than I expected for the filter so I decided to get a nice one.
