Two Questions, one Thread
Question 1

i have this plant (i dont know what type) that i bought about 2 weeks ago, it has grown outragusely fast.... so how do i splice hte plant so i can grow two?

Question 2
When do i know i need to stat putting in CO2?

What does the plant look like? Is it a stem plant (like individual stems that send out their own roots) or a plant with multiple stems from roots or a tuber? Are the leaves small or large?

if it is a monocot, ie. grass/sword w/ leaves growing from a central point you can try cutting the main body in half, tricky and usually lethal but it can be done. or you could try trimming all but 2-3 of the newest developed leaves off. the remaining 2-3 cut the top half portion off, and cut any new growth in half. this will cause the plant to reduce in size and cause it to split on its own.

if it is a dicot, you can simply cut 3/4 of the apical meristem off. this will cause the plant to produce atleast 4 new meristems as opposed to 2 from totally removing the a. meristem.

both of these methods will result in smaller plants for a period, but they will eventually grow to original size.

okay i found out what the plant is...

Limnophila aquatica

Use the Jello receipe. Make sure your KH is above 3, if not increase your KH. CO2 levels above 30ppm are dangerous for fish, but I doubt the DIY will get you to that level. Use the ph/kh chart to determine the amount of CO2 in your tank.

If all goes well, you will see the magnificent sight of your plants pearling.....can't get enough of that!

P.S. what size tank, substrate, lights? Thanks
