Split/cracked back shell on RCS

1 more died in the new tank, but it already had a cracked shell (in 2 places!). It lasts for a couple of days before it died though. I haven't seen any other death so far.

very interesting.. all the females that died were from aquatic warehouse right?.. i only got 1 big female and one baby shrimplet who i think is female from there.. the big one died within 24hrs.. and the baby one is healthy..

all my males survived though.. and breeding with the females i got at a different store

No, I never got any shrimp from Aquatic Warehouse because ones they had were all sickly; they had a bad batch. I got several from Octopuss garden, and initially it was RCS's from this store that died, but it was just by chance because later, other ones died too, including CRS's that I got from 2 different people. I have 3 blue shrimp from them, too, and they are doing fine. Most of the shrimp that died were females, though. It's strange. The shrimp tank now has just some juvy fish in there. Once they are grown up, I'm gonna go trade them in and redo that tank.

Hm.. I found a dark colored (reddish) worm about 0.5cm long in this tank today when I pulled out the sponge filter. I've read of leeches killing shrimp. Does anyone have a picture of leeches in freshwater aquariums? I'm searching through the forum, but I'm not really finding what I'm looking for.

No it was on the sponge filter which is submerged at the bottom of the tank. There aren't really any mosquitos in San Diego. Anyway my shrimp keeping is a failure it seems. I started out with over 30 and now I have less than half of that. I'll start over a dedicated tank for shrimp later in the summer.
