Sponge filter in breeding tank...

I have a tank with some betta fry in it but the sponge filter has stopped working. I dont have any other established filters so could i just put a brand new one in?

why can't you use the existing sponge on the new filter???

because i took the filter out but forgot to put the sponge in water so its no good now.

well a lot of the bacteria is gone then. its better then nothing.

If you have no other established tanks you may as well put the new filter in. Keep a close eye on the water levels and carry out small water chages as required daily if need be.

I have a few other established tanks would it help if i put the new sponge filter in one for a couple of days and then put it in the fry tank?

Yhat may help slightly, but I'stiil run a flter on the other tank and feed lightly, doing water changes as necessary.

This is a good example why folks should always run sponge on multiple tanks just for emergency.
