Hey guys

I was looking for a cover that I can put over my intake for my filter. Its intake tube is about an inch wide.

Can I just buy like a sleeve that I can slip over it? I am expecting baby shrimp and dont want them to get sucked up in the thing.......

yes you can. vinyl window screen works, filter sponge works, even womens nylons can be used.

yeah just buy a sponge and cut it out to shape and slide it on :) good luck

nylons work for me. i also use sponges but they can clog and they attract shrimp because of trapped matter. My LFS also sells an eheim prefilter but seems a wasted expense when you can make something yourself.

I just went to the local grocery and picked up one of those cleaner sponges just like this one

Cut it in half, maybe even cut it into a smaller shape if you like, which is what i ended up doing... Works great on my ac20, very dense so fry dont get threw.. make sure the hole you make in the sponge fits very tightly over the intake tube, if to loose then fry my get sucked in..

If you buy a household sponge be sure it is not treated with an anti-bacterial agent. Many of the "kitchen" sponges are, while most of the "automotive" sponges are not. Lowes used to carry some very nice large sponges for a buck each.
