just looking for some info on sponge filters in saltwater?? I thought that maybe adding a few to my sump to add extra bio filtration, where very little live rock could fit may be a good idea. Although, i do not know if they work well in Saltwater.

If they do work well, i may use them on my QT as well?

Thanks,
Jay

what about a sump?

no, just lack of space.... my skimmer takes up a lot of room and my fuge is already filled with LR. I want more LR or at least bio filtration, but i cant sacrafice more of the tank room for it. I will be keeping big fish, so they need room to swim..... instead of just piles upon piles of LR.

I was just thinking that maybe by adding 3-4 right sized sponge filters to my sump would be more helpful then adding another 10 or so lbs (maybe less) or live rock.

I use one as a water polisher in my sump,I used egg crate to form a barrier
on each side to hold it in place, works well.If you use sponge, clean it when you do regular maintenance. If you dont clean it,it will leach toxins after awhile.

so you use it as more of a mechanical filtration than a biological?

It's actually both.A water polisher,and it does bio-filtration too.
