i got one! he was labled as an african spotted leaf fish, so i thought he was an african leaf fish, so he's in a 10g right now. i later learned that he's actually a spotted climbing perch and will eventually need a minimum of 30g to himself....o.O lol, so i guess i'll be upgrading because i've had him for 2 days and i'm already in love with little Sid (named after Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols)

oh yeah, he's technically my husbands fish, and this is technically his tank, but i'm probably going to end up being the one taking care of it >_< so if anyone has some tips on general care of spotted climbing perches, lemme know. i'll post pics on saturday. he's already eating frozen brine shrimp and i'll expand his foods to live black worms and when he's bigger, shrimp, worms, crickets, etc.

Let me guess, you got it at Petsmart? For some reason they have these guys labelled incorrectly at my local store also! They keep them in with the dwarf puffers.

yup. someone suggested i get an african or south american leaf fish for my 10g and i thought that's what they had at petsmart, but of course he was mis-labled. but he's just so darn cute i can't give him back. i will just have to upgrade! lol.

yup. he will probably end up in a 55 with maybe some emerald cories or some kind of large schooling fish that he wont eat.

Go one better...get a couple of senegal or marbled bichirs...they make excellent tankmates for Ctenopoma.

i don't like bichirs. just not my thing.

I also have a couple of these ive had mine four about 4 yrs. now and they are doing well. they are 3-3-1/2" long. i thought they would get a little bigger than that...maybe 5" at least i was hoping anyways.

anyone ever get these to breed?

ive only read 1 article where it says they are difficult to get to breed. and that there is only 1 reported case...at that time at least...of captive breeding.

As far as I am aware there is only the one captive-spawning incident.
