I just popped in to say I'm not having fun with fishkeeping.
I have one handicapped betta who never gets better. First it was shipping stress, then it was a mystery...and now? who knows?.
One sick betta who I have been nursing for 3-4 weeks following the treatment of the handicapped betta. Probably because they were fighting a lot, even though the setup is supposed to be ideal for them,. Now the other two bettas fight even more. Water tests fine in the betta tnak, probably going to hell in the catfish tank ( more later)
During which I begin to have water problems due to the increased volumes of water I needed for the frequent water changes in the sick tank and betta tank ( fish fighting each other and getting injured need extra water changes) . .
I haul in water by the 1 gal containers if one tank suddenly needs more water, then the other tank gets less. So I ended up cutting water changes to the baby catfish tank due to the vastly increased water needs of the bettas.
Now I have "gooey glue algae" problems in my main tank which are destroying my live plants. I guess the plants don't like the higher volume water changes much.
OH an during this time I have having crippling fatigue problems to the point where I'm missing massage sessions and asleep most of the time...
SO I cannot increase bringing in more fresh water because I can't drive there to fetch it. If it had been for normal routine water changes, I'd be fine.
When I finally get out, I've had it, I need to emergency move these baby catfish to my parents before they get sick due to lack of water changes.
At this point I cannot physically carry as much extra water that is needed back. I'd have to make two trips a day for the increased water change needs of the bettas. I planned to give my main catfish tank a slightly larger water change and move the little cats over within the next few days.
OK so I get to my parents house after not being able to drive there for about a week and guess what?...Whole room stinks and there's a dead fish crisis going on. OH yay, NOW I can't move the baby cats in because the whole tank is polluted with dead fish cooties.. Luckily it's not one of mine. So it's so time consuming to clean up from a dead fish crisis when I change the water by 1 gal jugs. Which is fine for routine water changes, not fine for the weirdness that is leaving dead fish to rot in the tank.
Long distance fish keeping and people who don't even notice when their fish die and start rotting away.
So I'm muttering under my breath about the fish I never wanted sharing my tank abandoned with my catfish. All this taking care of the dead fish crisis at my parents house has used my limited energy so now I'm severally behind on housecleaning and getting in trouble over that.
OH and the baby cats are still alive, though I'm concerned about them because of the "bottleneck" water supply went though around here.
