That is the one phrase that I can hear my prof. saying for us to learn and the one that quickly jumps from my mouth...that and meine shatze...though I don't say THAT one. Kinda sick, a prof. is allowed to use that in the classroom...esp. he told us NEVER to say it to a German.

Ich habe zwei "semesters" deutsch, und ...I have traveled there and I still suck at it!! I can't even finish this sentence. I can kind of read it though.

KVEETIE: Yo is that a manual or a joke!! I LOVE the huge words. AND I do acutually understand what they say. I am a better language reader than speaker. Wish I could do both fluently...Wonderous brain.

It's a joke sheet somebody from England put together, decades ago. i.e there's one for "bonnet" which is the hood; and I changed "petrol" to "gas". I first saw it in 1984 or 1985. At that time my sister & bro-in-law were living in Germany. I had mailed a copy to them and they thought it was a hoot. I'm a packrat and I keep things, so it was still in my files.

LOL..my husband took German in high school and college so can speak some. He translated cards for the neighbors..one turned out to be a death notice that their aunt had died.
One of my kids finally took German in high school so someone could understand him when he would speak German at us to annoy us :D
 
I voted no because there is no "a little" choice. I spent 3 weeks in Germany the summer between my jr. and sr. years of high school and I wanted to learn German but they all wanted to practice their english on me. I sure did have fun.
 
OK from the "true german"... (lol)

gelangweilt = bored. Very good Pumaward. Now "angebohrt" i have never heard being used in connection with being bored. I think thats a translation error - angebohrt means something like "drilled" - but understandable.... because "bohren" is the word for drilling.

And Kveeti... i dont want to rain on your parade but most of that is not german - not even in a weird dialect (of which there are many in germany). If i had to guess i'd say what you have there is actually netherlandish (is that what you call it ? you know what they speak in "Holland=Netherlands(us)").
