I will post pictures as soon as I remember to bring my camera home.

I dont' know why I bought him, I guess we've always had bettas as long as we've been into fish. Our last one, Nemo, died last month after being our pet for about four years. His 5 gallon tank by my computer was emply for a month, while I tried to figure out what to replace him with.

I hadn't made a decision on what to replace him with, but i was planning on just putting my sister's green tetras in there. But at the fish store today, I ended up in front of the bettas. They had a great selection, picking one was difficult. They had a light one, pretty rare coloring, but i don't breed, so i decided to leave him for a true betta enthusiest.

Instead I picked up a red and tourquise one with beautiful fins. He's a great looking fish, and has been pretty active so far. I'm calling him boba.

Wow! He is SO active! Swimming all over the tank, displaying his beautiful fins for me. I didn't remember they were this fun to watch! My old betta, Nemo, became so unactive for the few months before his passing, that I don't even remember him doing much more than just floating around in his tank. But Boba is all over the place!

Boba > green tetras

What store did you buy from? So far the main LFS have been very disappointing in the way of bettas. My dad got a pretty purple one, but I went and checked the same store to just find a row of neglected standard reds.

Maybe I should look in the small stores around town?

There's a small store in my area that gets some pretty unique and interesting betta at times. Last batch they had about 15 double tails..but were selling them for $15.00 :thud:

That's more than I ever paid for a betta...but I bought a beautiful light marble with patches of irridescent purple and blues...hard to describe..here's a couple of bad pics of him...

I really liked him, but when I got him home I realized he had a chronic swim bladder issue and from my experience, that sort of thing only gets worse. (caused by overfeeding as a fry) I took him back...but, if I hadn't paid so much for him I would have kept him.

I had a betta when I first got into the hobby years ago, but got rid of my tanks a while back...When I setup this new 29gallon, I hadn't planned to get a betta, but like you, I found myself standing in front of the bettas at the pet shop and now I have one in the tank. Still trying to figure out what to name him though

There is a Pettown fish store in El Toro CA that I go to. It is far better than your average Petsmart, etc. They had some rare female bettas there too, but I wanted a male.

I was going to name mine Pho (fuu) before I decided on boba. Its a Vietnamese noodle dish, very tastey.
