Squatting in a new tank SCAM!!

My LFS recently informed me of the amazing benefits of squatting in a newly established aquarium. Apparently the bacterial agents found in average human waste is the equivalent of a turbo boost to the aquariums bio cycle.

My girlfriend and I tested the theory last night.

This morning our damsels are dead.

It is our experienced conclusion this information is untrue and furthermore detrimental to the marine inhabitants of the aquarium.

On a serious note, your guts are fairly anaerobic, so it seems unlikely there would be much in the way of aerobic nitrifying bacteria in there.

Urine can be used as a source of ammonia for FW and SW cylcing, but fecal matter is a bit distasteful, IMO. As for introducing bacteria--urine from a healthy human is some of the bacterially cleanest fluid out there. Certainly not going to introduce the nitrifiers.
