Hey

If I want to help cycle another tank ... Will simply squeezing and swishing around an old filter from an established tank into the new tank be enough? Or do I need to let that old filter sit in the new tank for a bit?

Thanks!

It should help jump start the cycle by introducing some good bacteria, but it won't completely cycle the tank.

if done correctly you will cycle the tank in 4-5 days.

add fish get a good ripe filter and squeeze the bacteria out of it.( I usually squeeze the bacteria into the new filter.

in some cases you may have to change water so monitor the parameters.

I've done filter squeezins in 4 tanks..all 4 cycled within 5 days.

you can add more bacteria if you think the parameters get high. .25 ammonia is the highest I've seen a tank get.

remember when youo do the sqeeze youare adding both beneficial bacteria. so you can add more anytime you feel you need more.

btw..i cycled a tank with discus(long story) using squeezins, with no ill effect to the discus.
