Stable ammonia

One more question, Im planning to put alot of plants in my tank, but the light I have is only 15w (it came with the hood). Whats the best lighting there is for plant aquariums? I have a 20 gallon (tall) tank. Oh and could you please send me a link of it if possible? Thanks!

Oh the one I have at the moment: T8 8k Full Spectrum daylight, 15w, 120v, 18'

Is this sufficient enough? or do you recommend something else?

That would be considered very low light. The more light you have, the faster the plants will grow, but only if they have all the other nutrients they need, including macro nutrients, micro nutrients, and CO2. I would at least double the amount of light you have to bring it up to medium. That will allow you to grow many plants, without too much fuss, unless you want to get into the finer points of high-tech planted tank keeping.

Also, if you have fish in the tank, you cannot add ammonia. The ammonia that's in there is what is killing them in the first place. If you want to take the fish out and start doing a fishless cycle, then you need to find ammonia without surfactants, coloring, perfume, or anything else in it. Generally the cheapest one you can find is the best. Walmart carries clear ammonia. One way to tell is to shake the bottle and see if suds appear.

In that lighting about the only plants I would try would be things like java ferns, java moss, anubias, etc.

Do you have any plants in mind you would like to grow?
How dedicated to plants do you want this tank to be? Do you want to go as far as adding in ferts/CO2?

I've been googling for the past hour looking for 18" 40 or 60 watt lightbulb with no luck. The only ones I've seen are 15w. My hood only accommodates one bulb.
