Because of where my tank is located in my room, it is unavoidable not to be near (3' or so) it at all times. This being said, along with the fact that i like to observe my fish very closely, it often requires that I sneak up to the tank at mere snail's pace just to view my two skittish little peppered cories. And its not like they DONT have hiding places..

Q: Has anyone else had this happen?
Q:Is it an indicator of something amiss in the tank?

Thanks, Wolf

they're probably nervous because there are only two of them and a "big scary human is getting close." If they're new, get them some friends and give them time to settle in.

they are not new at all, but sometimes (perhaps a special vision thing?) i can get fairly close if i move slow enough and dont jek my head.

as to getting friends, the tank is currently on the os side, but when i move the os-ers out, i may consider either leaving it as a retirement tank.

In any case, due to my fear of killing my babies off due to new diseases, the "new friends" will be put under strict QT untill i am absolutely certain that they are safe.

I used to have a school of 3 bronze cory's and they were always active and patrolling the bottom of the tank for food. I added 3 more bronze corys and since than my cory's have been exhibiting the same behaviour as yours. I have to sneak quietly up to the tank, otherwise they all retreat to the caves. So while I have seen this behaviour, I still can't explain it.

i have just the opposite problem. i had three of them and they were all over the place, not scared or anything, then since one of them died a few weeks ago i never see the other two. always hiding in the same spot. they'll get a new friend or two soon, maybe they'll be happier.

THANK YOU SOME ONE ELSE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 bronze corys....at first peaceful happy..doin cory dance havin fun all round the tank great little guys that never ever payed attention to me!!!!!

about a month or 2 later BOOOM!!! the most scared things!!!!! always running to hide when i even come near the tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MOVED THEM ! to my 55g! THEY ARE STILL THE SAME WAY!!! GOT 3 MORE CORIES!!!!! now the OTHER CORIES ARE THE SAME!!!!cause when the others run to hide they scare all the other cories!!!!!!

I NEVER SEE THEM UNLESS I SNEEK UP!!!!!

i know i know ..... but lately i have been very worried about this matter

Hi,

I have a school of nine(three Bronze, two Peppered, and four Three-Striped) in my 54 gallon tank and they are not afraid of me at all! That's because there is nine of them, and they feel much more confident when I come near the tank becuase all there buddies are near. I can even get a very close up pics of them. If you get room in your tank, get some more Cories.

I think that's excellent advice. The only time I have to sneak up on my fish tank to avoid scaring the fish is when somebody's stressed out. This usually happens to me when I have new fish, or improper social structure. Which tank is this for, Wolf? Would you have room to increase school size?

My three emerald cories could care less if I am around or not but the others (Swartz, peppered) hide from me if the lights are on (but they will come out after a while if I am not too active).
