Stand for a 29 gallon aquarium?

Thanks! A friend of mine was at Walmart and I asked her to check the dimensions. The stand is 29 1/2 inches lengthwise but my aquarium is 30 inches lengthwise. The guy in the dept said a half inch hanging over wouldn't matter since the weight of the tank should distribute once filled with water. Do you think this is safe or keep looking?

Yup it's fine. My tank hangs over the edge a 1/4" on each side just like your tank will. I think it looks better this way as the tank fits perfectly to the stand. I'm very happy with mine I think you will be too.

I looked at the stand at Walmart for the 20/29 gallon tank. The measurements are 29 1/2" w x 13 1/2 " D x 28 3/4 " H. I believe it was Mylex brand. My 29 gallon tank is 30" L x 12 " W x 18" high. The measurements of the tank listed above are the glass end to end for length, depth and height. If I measure the aquarium with the trim, frame at the bottom for length or front to back for depth end to end it is slightly longer. I am considering buying it since its only $69.99 Canadian but my dad is worried about the l/2 inch shortage. He said he could put a piece of flat plywood, paint it black and place, fasten it over top of the top part where you place the aquarium. ??

Yes, you can. Here's an old shot of my 20 gallon setup:

The stand is a 10-gallon stand with a 3/4" plywood top. It's been holding just fine for around 8 months now.

Thanks Darb for the info and photo. I think I will buy that Mylex stand and get my dad to cut a piece of plywood, paint it, fasten it etc for my 29 gallon. Walmart seems to be the cheapest for aquarium stands. I thought about making my own but will go with this one.

Trust me you don't need plywood. Keep in mind that a 1/2 inch doesn't mean your tank will hang over 1/2 inch. It means the tank will hang over a 1/4 inch on each side. My tank measures 24" width and the stand I bought from walmart is 23.5"...just like yours, a 1/2" smaller. No need for plywood. A 1/4" is nothing. You'll se when you put the tank on the stand :)

that's what I did. The Wally World stand was about $50 (us).

I did have to put some cardboard under my stand to even it out till the weight itself settles the carpet right.
