Stand making noises!

Okay, I'm going to think 'outside the stand'. ;)

You mentioned you have 3 stands that are doing this. This leads me to wonder...is it your floor??? Wood does expand and contract with different temps (you might have heard a house creak at night because of this). If you're in a house (as opposed to a mostly concrete apartment building), since most houses have wooden frames, it may be the boards supporting the floor. If you can, take a look at the beams under the tanks and see if they're showing any signs of stress.

furniture that isn't designed specifically for aquariums can be very dangerous.

b/c they usually do not fail for quite some time or until the dog bumps his rump on just the right spot . . . check out the DIY plans for aquarium stands- you can put one together really cheap and know that it is done properly.

the employees at big als are not likely to know the amount of weight that the furniture is to be trusted with or that water ways 10 lbs a gallon
(in your case this means 550 lbs!) and that you probably have 30-70 lbs of gravel in it as well.

The best I can do is hope for a change in the summer. I'd have to take everything apart and reset the whole tank. I dont have enough money, but I will after my birthday (May 22). I can't do DIY because I'd need help, and my dad is kinda lazy :)
 
the thing I find odd is that it does this only at night..that could be because the exterior noise at night is less ..which in turn allows more sound to be heard..
that being said..it would depend on your furniture whether it can hold the weight..most furniture is built on a frame the difference it what material was used in the frame..most aquarium stands are built using 2X4 some furniture it but most is not.
there really isn't a way to check short of pulling the drawers out but that might in turn affect the integrity.
one thing you can check tho is how the drawers and or doors look.
are they square and operate correctly? if there is shifting..the drawers and doors will show it.
