Stand on wood floors

So I am buying a large tank and going to be putting it in my new house, which has all wood floors. Should I place anything underneath the stand, ie like putting a yoga mat underneath the tank? I want to be sure that when I remove my tank(if/when) years down the road the wood underneath the stand is not ruined. Thanks
 
I put linoleum down before I set up the tanks/stands on my hardwood floors. Years down the road when the tank is moved the wood under the mat will be in better condition than the rest of the floor...
 
I would use something clear, since the sun can bleach out the floor over the years, and if something is covering the floor from the sun for so long, that spot will be darker than the rest. Also, cleaners like Swiffer, that have alcohol in them, also bleach the floor gradually. It's happened to my mothers floors in the kitchen, living room, dining room.
I use little plastic furniture movers under my one tank that is metal with 4 legs. Your floor wont be damaged unless it's soft wood and/or you drag the stand around...
 
You probably should put something under it, but a few years back I had a metal stand on an all wood floor for about 2 years and there was no damage to my floor when we put the tank away. I'm sure if no one is going to accidentally bang into to, or if its a small enough tank and not overly heavy it could be fine, but there's no harm in putting something down. It will do more good than harm.
 
I put caster cups under the legs of metal stands to prevent any rust stains. I cupped the wood floors under a styrofoam cooler I used for extra plants, it wasn't quite water proof, oops.
I'd worry about something solid that water could get under & not dry easily, there will be spills. I use felt type pads under some wood but I don't have a really big tank yet.
 
Check. I'm still narrowing down a tank, so I'll take that into consideration when I look at stands. The stand will definitely be a large wooden one, no metal 4leg stands for a 80-100gal tank!
 
If it's a wood "cabinet" type stand, you can use nail-on teflon feet. Use enough to spread the load out. On a 4' 75G stand I used 8 or 9 of them. Might be 12-15 or more for a 6' tank.
 
Ooooh, I really like that idea KJ. Are these teflon feet to be found at Lowes/HD?
