starfish I.D.?

I got one on my original live rock, he was about 1/2" in diameter, and brownish....haven't seen him in months though. I DO wonder if he's the one that decimated my green star polyps... Just put in a new live rock, came out of the display tank at my LFS, and was being "stored" in their coral tank, and found a BUNCH of little blue-ish looking stars on it. They look like Asertinias, but are more of a light blue. I hope they stay away from my Xenia's....

Thats the problem with Asterina, there are so many species and are very difficult to tell apart. That and there seems to be a ways to go with the identificaton and study of this group. I have and have had "Asterina" that appear to be harmless herbivores, yet have also had a few turn on corals. Were they the same species who are capable of switch hitting per their diet? Were they simply cleaning up dead tissue on the coral and not actualy the cause of the coral's problem? In other words, it appears to be a crap shoot as to what you have or how they behave. So far, it seems the odds are with us that they will be harmless, but one never knows for sure.
