Starting a cichlid tank

In a couple of months i plan to start a cichlid tank but i am unsure what cichlids are compatible so help would be appretiated. its a 55gallon tank and so far i know that i want some discus but thats about it

While discus are not as fragile and difficult as a lot of folks believe, there are not the best starter fish to begin with.

Make sure you have the ability to maintain pristine water conditions.

The tank will be started when i move to RI in October for school but im going down sometime before and im going to get a water sample of the place that im going to rent

Maybe some rams, either GBR's or Bolivian Rams, Discus are a peaceful fish, and most Cichlids are a little to aggressive, I have also heard of a school of some kind of tetras also, ............
