Hello everyone!:)
Like the title says, im starting a green tree frog tank. This is what im going to have for the green tree frog.
10 gallon tank
75 watt light over it
regular moss that grows in the back yard
all kinds of diff kind of plants.
This is how its going to be, im going to make a small pool for the frog at the end of the tank, I am going to let the moss cover the tank bottom so it can be like a green carpet, Is there any thing els i should get for the tank? What kind of cool plants would you suggest for a 10 gallon green tree frog tank? Can i feed the moss and other plants miracle grow liquids? I am going to use regular soil for the plants, and maybe about half an inch or an inch of miracle grow soil at the bottom of the tank. What do you guys thing? I have a local pond thats got VERY cool green tree frogs.

Well to start off you should get a 15-20 gallon, a 10 is pretty small if you think about it if you had to be in there. And you should'nt catch the frogs, a lot of time they are so stressed from being taken from freedom to a tank they can die, thats just my opinion unless you provide them a really roomy tank, like a 55 gallon or something, that actually gives them room to climb. All my petsmarts/cos and lfs all sell some sort of tree frog. And soils sometimes have stuff in it that can make any frog sick so your better off going to your petstore and buying the safe bed-a-beast/eco-earth.

I'm not going to buy one, I'm going to catch one. The tree frogs that are at my local pond are small. About and inch from head to but. So i think a 10 gallon tank is going to be plenty of room for him. What dos everyone think about the moss? I want it to cover the soil so the frog wont get all dirty in mud, and its going to look nice. A nice green mossy carpet, and the moss is going to be soft to.:) Can i put these plants in with the frog? A nice dark green color of live Dracena so he can climb all over, its not that big tho, and a very nice light green Maranta Leuconeura and its small too. Maybe a few other plants, cant think of any kind of other plant for now. I have kept these green tree frogs before. I don't have any of them because i let them all go. But it was a long time ago. What dos everyone think? Can anyone tell me any other kind of good plants that can be with a Green Tree Frog? One inch from head to but is a fully grow green tree frog.

my best advise is to do some reading... i'd start here: http://www.brianstropicals.com/building.html

also, you should really find out what species of frog you are trying to catch before you liberate him from nature... and see if there is information available about their requirments...

moss is tricky to grow. it seems like it just grows like crazy in the wild, but is harder in the tank. I sometimes wonder if it's because it gets too much light in the tank compared to it's choice of natural surroundings. other times I think it's because it has too much water. I have several different mosses in my 15g... not sure what they are really, but some do well and others don't.

this page is great too: http://dereila.ca/woods/page1.html

WOW!! I am going to build my self a terrarium! I REALLY like that blue frog that he sells for $45! I might just get one of those instead of a green tree frog. Ill do some more research before i start doing anything. Is his Riccia just growing on the ground or is it floating in the water like a lily pad? Thanks for the info everyone! If anyone els has any more info plz tell me!!

I think i got Electrified Cats Tail Moss in my back yard and im going to use that for my 10 gallon tank thats going to make a nice green carpet for the frogs.:grinyes: Do you think the regular plants and the Electrified Cats Tail Moss will spread faster and grow faster if i put a 75 watt PC light on it for 24/7? How long should i leave the lights on for the plants a day?

Will these layers of substrats for a terrarium work? On the very bottom put about 2-3 inches of pebble rocks, then a screen frame to seperat it from the next kind of substrat, then add about 3 inches of soil. Will that work? Is this how it works in the substrat? The pebble rocks are for draning the soil so the plants wont rot, then the water evaporates from the pebbles rocks then it makes the soil moist not making the soil all soggy. Is that how it works?
