starting a planted tank, does this sound good?

i think its corkcsrew val(who wouldve known)..
i hear that under good conditions these plants produce runners..
i think this is what it is. it seems to be 5 or 6 small plants connected by one long stem.
where each of the plants connect, there are roots..
should i just plant each small plant? what about the stem connecting them?
 
Leave it alone if you want them in that area, if not you can cut that "stem" and replant it elsewhere. That one plant will then spread more "stems" (runners) and thus, create a new area of vals.
