After a two year failed venture with one of my 10g's, I've decided to find the current fish a better home(didn't know they would get that large). But anyway, I'm going to totally redo it. I'm thinking a small school (maybe six) of some small species of tetra, so my questions are:
1. Which species?
and:
2. What types of plants work well with them?

I'll consider other fish suggestions, if you have them...

neons, cardinals, rummynozes, diamonds, emperors, lemons, searpes, etc. are good tetras. if you choose neons or cardinals you could get away with 10 or 20 because they stay small. for emperors, lemons, and rummynozes you could go with 8, and with diamonds, you could get away with 6 or 7 possibly 8 if you ahve a good filter
tetras like pretty much any type of plant.

yeah, and since neons are so small i would say:

10 neon tetras = 6 lemon tetras

yeah. are you looking for a beginner plant?

java moss gives a nice look, you dont need added minerals, and its a low light plant.

otherwise ive heard watersprite is awesome, anacharis, hornwort...those are BEGINNER plants in case you REALLY want to start over again. LOL

ANY type of plants? I was leaning toward cabomba, but I heard that it's fragile...

Now that's one kind of tetra I've never heard of...

I've got 6 of these little dudes, very peaceful - sometimes they squabble amongst themselves, but nothing at all serious.

Thanks for the suggestions, but after some research I'm going to go with a small school of Bloodfin tetras- anything special I should know about them?

if you have compatible species, I think invertebrates can add a lot of joy to a small tank. I really dig my red ramshorn snails, they keep everything squeaky clean too. Only really minor plant chompage, far outweighed by the benefit I've experienced with them.
